Since September 2020 Nazmiye Yılmaz takes care of our afternoons from Monday to Friday with Emanet. But who is this Turkish woman, with discreet participation in social networks and the media?
It is not simple to understand, as there is practically no detailed information about it. The little we found, we bring here and give us a brief notion of the role and importance of our dear – and sometimes criticized, Naz.
Graduated in Communication from the University of Mármara, she began her professional career in 1989 at the Jornal Tercüman. He also worked for the newspaper Günaydın and has experience also working with a news agency, then moving on to work in television.
Nazmiye joined Kanal 7 in 1993 and held various roles: she started as a reporter, and was also deputy director and news director, vice president of the News Department and head of the same department. In 2013 he left the role and in 2016, he wrote the script and produced Adini sen koy.
She herself highlights in an interview in 2007 that she has always worn the hijabhank that Muslim women wear as a sign of respect for God, and that she has not experienced gender discrimination during her professional career. This is an important point to highlight, as many criticisms that Brazilian fandom makes of the story told in Emanet use Islam as a background. Claiming to be “conservatives”, “advocating violence against women”, among other arguments.
We mistakenly associate Islam with violence. And this influences the analysis and understanding that some people have of Dona Naz and her works. Did you know that Islam was the first religion in the world that gave women the right to divorce and the right to vote in the 7th century?
What is behind the mistaken association of Islam + violence and how this is reflected in our daily firecracker is talk for part II of “Who is Nazmiye Yılmaz?”.
